GUIDE TO GOLF GPS AND RANGE FINDERS

To avoid guessing, affordable technology, such as laser rangefinders and GPS units, can be our best friend on the golf course. These high-tech devices can instantly give us the exact distance and alert us to the various features of the course that can improve our game.

Laser Rangefinders
Laser Rangefinders returns the laser beam off a target such as a flagstick and calculates the exact distance by Just pointing the rangefinder on the flags, bunkers, and other trace elements and it can also measure elements such as slope, wind, and temperature, although distance measurement is only permitted during the competition. Always remember to check out the local rules in which you play.
With laser technology, the rangefinders are more accurate than the GPS for distance measurement and can be used on any golfcourse. They are also useful in the driving area, making it easy to determine the exact distance from yard markers and direction flags.

However, there are limits. You need a vision line to achieve your goal. The rangefinder cannot help you measure the distance around your dogleg or through the woods.

GPS units
GPS units use satellite technology to determine their exact location and calculate the distance to different objects and feature trails, such as the front, center, and back of the green, water hazards etc. These smart units will also display topographic features which can not be seen with the naked eye.
Furthermore, GPS units can collect information during their round which includes data such as results, set green, fairways hit, shooting distance, sand saves, fairways hit etc.: Gold mine, if you like statistics tracking that, can help you improve game analysis

GPS units work on mapped routes, and the list continues to grow. You can have hundreds or even thousands of courses on one device.
